Bahrain 2009: Who Is Your Favourite For The Bahrain Victory?

The Toyota drivers have locked-out the Bahrain front row and Sebastian Vettel is in P3 and looking very competitive given his qualifying fuel load. The Brawns will want to capitalise on their early season form and Lewis Hamilton looks quite confident sitting in P5. But who is your favourite to win the race tomorrow? Bearing in mind that Toyota have never won a race before, the odds are mixed, and the Red Bull RB5 really does look awesome at the moment. This prediction is possibly the hardest of all the races so far in 2009…

Looking at the fuel loads of each the top ten qualifiers, I would have go with Sebastian Vettel looking the most handiest of drivers out there, but Toyota could surprise and if they get away well on the first lap of tomorrow’s race, then it may not be easy for the following Red Bull and Brawn cars to catch up. Also of note is the fact that Timo Glock is lighter than his team mate pole-sitter, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the German was able to jump Jarno Trulli, a driver who sometimes likes to take a nap during races.

Have your say, who’s your favourite to win the 2009 Bahrain Grand Prix?

  • Bias aside, I think Vettel’s in with a excellent chance tomorrow. Fuelled more than the two Toyotas in front of him and stopping at least two laps longer than anybody else in the top seven. Plus he saved himself a set of the soft-tyres, which the RB5 seems to look after rather well.

So Vettel first, Trulli second followed by either Glock or Button I reckon.

I’m with you, except I’m placing Glock ahead of Trulli and think Button may get himself ahead of the Italian as well.

So you’re not really ‘with me’ at all then 😀

  • I think Button with Vettel as probably the only other option. The Toyotas will go backwards and the Brawns are faster in race trim than in quali so they should drop Hamilton too.

  • How very strange it is to consider Vettle or Glock or even Trulli winning this race, even though they seem to have superior machinery along with Button and Barrichello. Few would have given any one of them a chance just five weeks ago and now we don’t even mention the names of last years front runners.

I suggest if either BrawnGP car wins then the season is pretty much OVER for all concerned.

Last weeks RedBull victory was a wet weather fluke that was more about being lucky and in the right place at the right time. I guess that is what racing is all about, taking advantage of certain circumstances, but in the end any number of teams might have won that race on a miserable wet day.

I thought Ferrari would show better than they did, same with McLaren but they simply don’t have it so far.

My guess is that tommorrow Button will eat up the Toyotas and RedBulls and that will break the backs of everyone else in 2009.

I’m not so sure it was a fluke. I think the RB5 is pretty handy, and I think Vettel will challenge the Toyotas today and keep the Brawns at bay. Either way though, this race will be harder for the Brawns to run away with. I guess we’ll all see in a couple of hours… 🙂
