Kimi Raikkonen leads Ferrari at Monaco on the first running of the grand prix weekend, edging out the two McLarens of Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen with a margin of just over 0.2s. Hamilton and Kovalainen were only split by 0.04s, the Finnish driver lapping well before breaking for lunch. The second Ferrari of Felipe Massa finished in fourth ahead of Nico Rosberg in the Williams and Robert Kubica in the BMW.
Nick Heidfeld stopped on track during the 90-minute session with damage to the rear of his BMW and Jarno Trulli damaged his rear suspension after clouting one of the circuits unforgiving barriers. David Coulthard also had trouble with his Red Bull Racing car, the Scot failing to set a lap time has he suffered a problem with his throttle.
Scuderia Toro Rosso’s new car turned a wheel today for the first at a race meeting, the STR3 rolling out on the streets of Monte Carlo with Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastian Vettel at the wheels. Bourdais hauled himself into a relatively impressive thirteenth, while team mate Vettel languished in nineteenth.
