It seems Formula One bosses like to kick a ball around when they’re not running the multi-million dollar business of motor racing. F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone has admitted to wanting to own London-based football club Arsenal, and now Renault boss Flavio Briatore is set to become the new owner of Queens Park Rangers, a second division club based in Shepherds Bush in West London.
While Bernie is experiencing difficulties in getting what he wants (the current directors do not want to relinquish control of the squad to the diminutive Brit), Briatore has managed to part with some cash and save the club from liquidation. According to a report in UK tabloid The Sun, Flav will wipe out the squads £17million debt and invest a further $100million over the next three years. The 57 year old Italian wants to raise the team back up into the Premier League, something the team hasn’t been able to do since 1996.
Surely Bernie should be winding down a bit at his age!
If he has too much money and needs to get rid of some then I could forward him my bank details… 😉
