Lewis Hamilton has made a public apology following news that the McLaren pilot was stopped by the police on Friday evening (Australia-time) at the control of a Mercedes road car on Lakeside Drive in Melbourne. It is understood the 2008 World Champion was spinning the rear wheels completing burnouts and fishtails in the vehicle before the police intervened.
This evening, I was driving in an over-exuberant manner and, as a result, was stopped by the police.
What I did was silly, and I want to apologise for it. Lewis Hamilton.
According to the local media in Melbourne, Hamilton’s Mercedes car was impounded and the young driver will be fined and charged on summons with improper use of a vehicle. It isn’t the first time Hamilton has been stopped by the police and it would also seem that his Australian Grand Prix luck with authorities is not getting much better. Last year Hamilton felt the wrath of the FIA after it was discovered he and a fellow team member lied to stewards following the race.
