Bahrain 2010: Fantasy Racers Update

Bahrain 2010: Fantasy Racers Update

A new year, and a new Fantasy Racers contest is upon us. With the changes to the format for 2010, I have chosen to only run two teams, each employing one of the given strategies. And not really knowing quite what was going to happen in the opening race, I hedged my bets on driver choices. For the team that can change it’s drivers – BlogF1 Racing (Unlimited) – I chose drivers who I felt would increase in value as well as score some decent points in the opening race. Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton were fairly safe bets, as was Adrian Sutil, I thought. The wildcard went to Kamui Kobayashi, who let me down by retiring from the race.

The fixed, or limited team consists of Alonso, Sutil and Kobayashi again, as well as Nico Hulkenberg and Vitaly Petrov. Again, Kobayashi and Sauber let me down, although Hulkenberg collected a few points on his debut.

The unlimited squad managed to raise 549 points from the first outing, largely thanks to a one-three finish. This put them in 3989th for the event, and 4006th overall. The limited team didn’t fare quite so well and only collected 473 points. It’s not even worth mentioning how far down the table they are at the moment.

Having said that, one thing I have noticed this year is a massive increase in Fantasy Racers participants. At the first round of the 2009 championship (the Australian Grand Prix), BlogF1 Racing (’09) coincidentally achieved 549 points, identical to 2010. However, the team’s overall league position last year following that result was 1678th. So it would seem there is more competition this year, which only means there is more chance of getting thrashed again!

I’ll figure out a way to make this table look pretty at some point. If you’re lucky it’ll be before Australia.

Fantasy Racers is a fantasy Formula One competition. It is free to sign up but if you wish to have more than team you will need to make a donation to the site. You can also join private leagues as well as creating your own for a little inter-office or inter-family rivalry.

  • I have quite a spread of performances in my five teams, ranging from LCM Caro getting 1595th (it had Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel on board) to LCM Barato in 11096th (it had Senna, Kovalainen, Trulli, Chandhok and Glock, only one of whom technically saw the chequered flag). The latter also managed to be last-but-one in its private league, which would be embarrassing except that the league in question is F1 Rejects!

And let it be known, that driver was Heikki Kovalainen. Just sayin’. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for stopping by Gavin. I noticed from my feed reader you had summed up your Fantasy Racers weekend (you actually reminded me to write mine – well, it is the first day back at school, I can’t be expected to remember everything!). I have however since opened the wine. So I shall be reading up on your endeavours tomorrow afternoon. I look forward to it though, I’m kinda intrigued by the different strategies-thing people have going on this year.

  • I had one team which got 567 points because it had both Ferraris…

And I think that for one of my teams I’ll just take your picks for the previous race since you’ve demonstrated your skill at this game last year.
