It would appear I am getting better at this Fantasy Racers malarkey, which is good because there is no better way of leaving Formula One for it’s four week break than on a high. It means I can gloat for a good month before it all comes crashing back down again. But for the first time in this season’s history, BlogF1 Racing have been beaten. Inner Pickle Racing scored a season high of 704 points, and it was mostly thanks to replacing Rubens Barrichello with Lewis Hamilton at the last moment on Friday afternoon.

Unbelievably, Inner Pickle Racing came good in the end, and despite BF1R faring less well, they still hauled in an impressive 599 points and ranked themselves in 505th for the event, and now rest in 833rd overall. IPR ended the day in 116th, and improve to 1259th overall.
I made a few changes ahead of this race weekend, and having seen Lewis Hamilton perform well in the first two practices, and having seen Brawn slide backwards, it was time to remove Barrichello and replace him with Hamilton. The Briton couldn’t have picked a better time to claim a victory for McLaren.
Team Finitalia also did well for once, with Raikkonen on the podium, Kovalainen in the points, Fisichella actually finishing a race and Trulli nabbing a point as well. Blogger’s Dog Racing also scored some well-deserved points, the quantity over quality team proving that sometimes, it can work. Alguersuari Tim collected a fine 75 points in his maiden race and Rosberg, Kovalainen and Nakajima all scored in triple digits as well.
So where does that leave the teams in the Sidepodcast League? BF1R are in P130, and IPR rest in P183. BDR are in P267 and PETN are in P306. The Finnish/Italian squad are bringing up the rear Minardi-stylee in P497. Forza Finitalia! Out of 566 competitors, it isn’t looking too bad. Although Kathi’s Schokoladenkuchen team are now up to 86th. The least said about that the better, me thinks.
Fantasy Racers is a fantasy Formula One competition. It is free to sign up but if you wish to have more than team you will need to make a donation to the site. You can also join private leagues, and currently BlogF1’s set of squads race in the Sidepodcast League.

Thanks for the update Ollie, I only run one team in fantasy racers, and got the same “I don’t like the look of brawn this weekend, especially rubens” vibe after practice.
I however didn’t pick hamilton: I just dont like him plus I’d already punted on kovalainen going up in value significantly as the maclaren gets quicker (I brought him in after the last race) and didn’t fancy being exposed to maclaren so heavily.
I opted to pick up two cheapies, and hope that they finish and get the laps completed points rather than set the world on fire. As it happened the points they scored between them were as good as any single driver finishing 3rd or worse… which wasn’t too bad.
Best of luck for the rest of the season, and I hope I’ll be able to gloat after beating you come abu dhabi 🙂
See, I prefer Kovalainen to Hamilton in terms of personality and likability, but out of the pair, Hamilton is more likely to win. I like the tactic of drivers rising in price though – this is the one area of the competition I haven’t embraced, hence why my budgets have remained fairly static. Oh well.
And the best of luck to you, Kris. 🙂
Out of curiosity, what’s your team’s name?
You’re quite right that Hamilton is the more likely to win, and that’s reflected in the relative prices of the two drivers.
I wasn’t saying that me not liking him made me not picking him a good decision: I was acknowleging it as a weakness 😉
Im “In The Way racing”, by the way.
Man, the results of the race were so hectic that your haul of 704 pts could almost be in the top 100. Nice job!
My results were mostly in the 200s and 300s, with a low of 201, but one of my teams scored 684, which wasn’t bad. But that’s just because it was one of the teams that I just picked random drivers. All of the teams that I try to do well with FAILED.
Also, how did you have the great judgment to suddenly change up your lineup? I don’t think your original lineup would have done very well.
But overall, congratulations to you and your teams, especially Finitalia!
