Barcelona hosted the first test session since the teams signed off in Brazil last month, with most teams expected to run cars over the next few days. With a lot of shuffling around, there were some new faces in new cars, and rumours have already started to circulate about the pace of next years cars.
Mark Webber was in force with his new team Red Bull. Although Mark is still contracted to is former team Williams, and so he was sporting unbranded overalls. Honda also used their now traditional unmarked car, and ran around the circuit in black. Jenson Button will not be driving though, as an injury to his ribs has forced the British driver to sit out while he heals.
Reigning world champion Fernando Alonso was also not present as he is still under contract to Renault. Instead, new driver Lewis Hamilton racked up a few miles, although a technical glitch hampered his run. Pedro De La Rosa is also expected to make an appearance for the Woking-based team.
Anthony Davidson debutised for Super Aguri at the Circuit de Catalunya, driving what the team have described as an interim car. Although rumours are spreading around that Super Aguri are using a 2006 Honda car, much in the same way that Toro Rosso raced the 2005 Red Bull during last season. If this is the case, Super Aguri could be making a sharp move further up the grid next year, and Davidson and Sato could be fighting for points, but we’ll have to wait for clarification on this before gettting wildly excited about having four British drivers challenging for points next year.
