Hamilton Will Race In Germany

Lewis Hamilton - 2007 European Grand PrixDespite concern yesterday surrounding the current championship leaders ability to race today in the Grand Prix of Europe, Lewis Hamilton has now been released by the hospital and FIA doctors have agreed the Briton may compete this afternoon. Lewis is expected to start from tenth on the grid. FIA Medical Delegate Dr. Gary Hartstein and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Klaus Zerbian have assessed Lewis at the Nurburgring circuit, as they do any other driver who has endured an accident, and declared him fit to race.

This is obviously good news for McLaren, who would have been unable to substitute their number two driver with Pedro De La Rosa as qualifying had already begun. The rules state that once Saturday afternoon rolls around, it is too late to change drivers. And of course it is good news for Lewis, who can attempt to claim a few more points to his already impressive 70, much to the delight of fans around the world.

  • This is great – even if Lewis wasn’t in a position to score points, it’s lovely to see him race and not getting any serious injuries from that nasty shunt.
