David Coulthard has ended the Barcelona test with a new lap record on the revised Circuit de Catalunya, beating the dominant Ferrari’s and title leaders McLaren to the top. Coulthard cemented the pace set by his team mate yesterday and showed the RBR3 has improved by some margin. Whether or not this pace can be converted into the Grands Prix is yet to be seen, but it is a morale boost for the team and fans alike. McLaren moved up the rankings slightly with a good day from Pedro De La Rosa. However, with rain interrupting play later in the afternoon, the session was cut short by an hour and everyone packed up.
The biggest news of the day fell to Honda and their innovative ears positioned on the from nose of their RA107 chassis. Nicknamed ‘Elephant ears’, the aero-device didn’t last long as they were removed before the end of the day. Christian Klien propped up the timing sheets in seventh and last place.
