With the second day of testing now complete at Circuit de Catalunya, the timing sheet looks as though it has been turned upside down with both Scuderia Toro Rosso’s leading the rest with the first and second fastest laps. Sebastian Vettel got the better of his Champ Car champion team mate Sebastien Bourdais, the margin between the pair just over 0.1s. Following the Bulls into third and fourth were Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen, Hamilton completing ten extra laps than the Finn and going 0.4s faster.
The Toro Rosso’s are still running their ’08 spec 2007 car, the squad hoping to achieve an advantage over the rest of the field by waiting until the European season before introducing the new STR3. Behind the McLarens was the resurgent Robert Kubica, placing his BMW in fifth and just ahead of both Renaults. Fernando Alonso once again bettered his team mate by gong sixth after 115 tours of the circuit. Nelson Piquet Jr also completed 115 laps and finished his productive day less than a tenth behind the Spaniard.
Red Bull Racing had a better day, although the RBR4 still isn’t showing the pace the team would like. Mark Webber lapped a fraction behind Piquet Jr and David Coulthard sandwiched Nick Heidfeld in ninth by going tenth, 0.3s slower than Webber. Next up were the Williams, who after their difficult day yesterday went eleventh and twelfth, Nico Rosberg being the faster and beating Kazuki Nakajima. And finally Honda driver Jenson Button popped his new RA108 into thirteenth, just ahead of Vitantonio Liuzzi in the Force India.

Sheesh… I can’t believe I never realised the teammates are both called Sebastian! Well, one being SebastiEn with and E instead of an A, but still… 🙂
On a more serious note, I have a feeling Red Bull and Toro Rosso will surprise a few this year… 🙂
