Aguri Suzuki today announced that British driver Anthony Davidson will partner Takuma Sato at Super Aguri. This news comes after Davidson’s six year stint as BAR’s/Honda’s test driver, and although it was widely expected, the news has been welcomed by both Aguri and Honda.
Anthony has been impressing team chiefs up and down the pit lane for a while now, regularly topping the Friday test sheets. The 27 year old has also competed in three races, two with Minardi and one with Honda, covering for his now team mate Sato. However, the opportunity of a full-time drive appeared to be a little too elusive until now.
I’d like to thank everyone at Super Aguri and Honda for giving me this chance.
I’m looking forward to working with everyone at Super Aguri – I’ve been impressed with the improvements the team has made through the 2006 season, and I can already see from my first visits to the factory that the team is very hard-working and highly motivated.
I can’t wait to get started! Anthony Davidson
The 2007 Formula One season will now see three British drivers competing, with David Coulthard in the Red Bull and Jenson Button in the Honda. Although Anthony will undoubtedly be following his older compatriotes around in the less-abled Super Aguri, this signing means that Davidson will finally get the chance to show what he can do.
