Silverstone 2009: Fantasy Racers Update

Another race, another set of numbers generated for the Fantasy Racers competition. Again, BlogF1 Racing did well and collected a healthy 715 points, mainly thanks to Button, Rosberg, Barrichello and Vettel all finishing in the top-eight. Also doing okay is Inner Pickle Racing, who were also thankful for a strong finish from their drivers, Timo Glock collecting 90 points towards their total.

As we can see though, Team Finitalia continue their abysmal assault on the title with only Kimi Raikkonen and Jarno Trulli earning any decent points. PETN didn’t do too badly and collected almost 500 points, themselves capitalising on Mark Webber’s strong finish today. The team of numpties, Blogger’s Dog Racing also did okay for once, adding 538 points to their total, with Nico Rosberg, Giancarlo Fisichella and Timo Glock scoring well.

Overall, BF1R rests in 980th which is up 84 places since the Turkish Grand Prix, and 143rd in the Sidepodcast League, an improvement of 8 places.

Fantasy Racers is a fantasy Formula One competition. It is free to sign up but if you wish to have more than team you will need to make a donation to the site. You can also join private leagues, and currently BlogF1’s set of squads race in the Sidepodcast League.

  • Here are my scores from this round –

    608, 607, 595, 573, 543, 535, 534, 494, 494, 470, 462, 448, 428, 397.

    608 – Stock market team

    607 – Germany team

    595 – Sebastiaen team

573 – BlogF1Racing imitation team (everyone except Barrichello)

    543 – Most expensive drivers

    535 – BMW + Ferrari + Webber

    534 – Random team

494 – See and Do team

    494 – BMW + Ferrari

    470 – Brazil Team

    462 – Least expensive drivers

448 – 2nd BF1R imitation team (kind of) (not really)

    428 – BMW + Ferrari

397 – Bad team!!! Hooray!!! After I picked up the McLaren drivers for this team, they instantly plummetted.

  • Only six of my teams are ahead of Finitalia 🙁

    How’s Mr. C doing?

And, congratulations on your awesome score!!! How long have you played this? Is this your first year, too?

  • How’s Mr. C doing?

He’s so far back I’ve given up checking, although I believe he did go up a little this time around (his team is called Longitudinal Inertia). I need a new goal/person to beat…

Ta, you aren’t doing so badly yourself – remember, the only way is up (unless you’re going down)! 🙂

Yep, it’s my first year as well. Are you in the Sidepodcast league yet?

My team Schokoladenkuchen (chocolate cake) is 21 positions below BF1. Wanna race? 🙂

  • @Ollie – Yup, I’ve joined the Sidepodcast League. I’ve also created my own so I can access my scores more easily. All of my teams have the European flag too.

  • Note to self: change Fantasy Racers teams before going out for the weekend.

The only team that did well was LCM Aléman, which since it’s composed entirely of Germans, wasn’t affected by my neglect. At 651 points, it did rather well for itself – in fact its best score all season!

The second-best team was LCM Barato, possibly because Bourdais’ retirement didn’t cancel out Fisichella’s good result. Still, 467 points is below-par, a consequence of a low-retirement race.

LCM Caro managed only 454 points because half the team (Button) scored worse than usual.

LCM Dragons, my freely-selected team, had a mere 441 points, with only the Brawn duo scoring more than 70 points.

The worst team was LCM Fire Lizards because every driver I support bar Fisichella had a bad day by their usual standards and the optional driver I had was Kovalainen of all people! 372 points is a disaster, only saved by Button’s presence in the team.

  • Schokoladenkuchen

That sounds very German. The only sweet thing I can remember from Miss Eels (my secondary school German teacher) is Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte. I prefer Schokoladenkuchen though. 🙂

Edit: That be Black Forest Gateaux/cake, for those wondering what Ollie is talking about. Again. 🙂

All of my teams have the European flag too.

I have this very slightly odd thing that I don’t really like calling myself British/English. I consider myself more European, probably because I can identify better with some of the customs and cultures found on the continent rather than on this ‘ere island that I live.

Note to self: change Fantasy Racers teams before going out for the weekend.

  • It will be especially important considering that my brother is getting married on the Friday of the German Grand Prix and I will therefore be unable to do anything relating to F1 on that day…

That is so inconsiderate of your brother! 🙂

Can you not slip away for a few minutes and access the ‘net from a mobile to check out the FPs and make the necessary changes? Either way, I hope you (and your brother) have a great day.

Well, the only other days would have been weekends. I get the impression that his non-F1-watching fianceé has organised most of this wedding’s detail, so I should consider myself lucky that it wasn’t scheduled for a GP Saturday or Sunday!

Slipping out would be deemed seriously unacceptable by my parents, even if they are probably the only two people there apart from my brother who know I have a blog. The bride’s face would be a picture…

Thank you for the good wishes 🙂
