Just prior to the final round of the 2006 Formula One season in Brazil, BMW Sauber have announced their driver line-up for the next season. Nick Heidfeld will retain his position in the team, which has seen the German driver collect 23 points so far, including a podium in Hungary where he finished a magnificent second behind winner Jenson Button.
The second seat at BMW will go to Jacques Villeneuve’s replacement, Robert Kubica. The young Pole was the first from his nation to compete in F1, and the faith the team put in him following Jacques’ departure before Hungary this year has been rewarded with 6 points so far – just one less than what the 1997 World Champion had managed. And Kubica would be sitting on 8 points if his car hadn’t been underweight after his stunning debut in Hungary earlier in the year.

BMW seem to be a team on the move. They have quickly got to grips with their 2006 car and transformewd themselves from Sauber to BMW relatively quickly. I am pleased that they have retained Heidfeld and Kubica, and I honestly think they could be a force to be reckoned with in the next 5 or so years. They are certainly improving quicker than Toyota, at any rate!
