Alonso Wins Fourth Consecutive Race

Alonso Wins Race Number FourFernando Alonso has won the F1 Canadian Grand Prix in style at Montreal, leading from lap one through to the end. Michael Schumacher finished second, having passed Kimi Raikkonen in the final stages after the Finn ran wide at the hairpin. Alonso’s team mate Giancarlo Fisichella finished fourth after receiving a drive-thru penalty from a jump start. Fifth place went to Felipe Massa, who fended off Jarno Trulli and Nick Heidfeld. Local driver Jacques Villeneuve woud have finished in eighth but retired after trying to lap the ailing Toyota of Ralf Schumacher just a few laps from the end. Villeneuve came across the slow Schumacher and in trying to move around te outside, found himself on the dirty marbles from where he had no choice but to take his hands off the wheel and allow the car to hit the wall. This incident brought out the second safety car of the race, after which Coulthard passed Button to claim the final points-paying position.

The start of the race was very exciting, with Juan Pablo Montoya and Michael Schumacher driving at very close quarters, and a coming together between Montoya and Nico Rosberg resulted in the German retiring, and the Colombian having to pit for a new nose cone for his McLaren.

Ralf Schumacher seemed to be suffering a problem throughout the entire race, but the team decided to let their man continue, despite almost causing an incident with race leader Alonso, and later on with Villeneuve. After Villeneuve hit the wall, Toyota retired the car.

The Canadian Grand Prix was exciting and challenging. Numourous drivers had close calls with the “Wall Of Champions”, and several drivers also ran wide because of the build-up of marbles on the outside of the corners. Lots of fast laps, lots of spins and lots of overtaking resulted in a great Formula One event.
